As news of J Jayalalithaa's death was announced by regional channels in Tamil Nadu violence broke out near Apollo hospital. An irate mob attacked security personnel and police. Instances of bottles, stones were pelted at security personnel were reported.

The police resorted to lathi charge to bring the situation under control. An irate mob indulged in violence by throwing chairs at security personnel. The situation got out of control when regional television channels started breaking news of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's death.
