Protests were held across Tamil Nadu today, organized by the Tamil Nadu Victory Association to demand better protection for women. Many association members, including women, participated in these demonstrations. However, in certain locations, protesters were detained for gathering without official permission.

The incident took place in Dharmapuri, where preparations were underway to set up a stage for the protest. Despite seeking police permission, the request was denied, and the police dismantled the stage, arresting several protesters on the spot, the party alleges.

Reacting to the arrests, Vijay criticized the government's actions, stating that at a time when women in Tamil Nadu face safety concerns and sexual harassment, it is crucial to ensure their security. On International Women's Day, the TVK party workers had staged peaceful protests to highlight these issues. However, instead of addressing their concerns, the government responded with arrests, suppressing their right to demand justice.

Calling this move undemocratic, Vijay asserted that people have the right to insist on their demands if their needs are not met. He urged the Tamil Nadu government to release the detained members immediately.

Meanwhile, in a Women's Day address, he accused the government of failing to ensure women's safety and vowed political change in the 2026 elections. It comes a day after his Muslim outreach program where he hosted an iftar party in Chennai.

In a video message, Vijay extended his Women's Day wishes to the women of Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that happiness is only possible when security is assured. "We all elected this DMK government together, but now we know how they deceive us and let us down when we trusted them. Change is the only constant," he declared. He urged the people to remain determined for change, assuring them, "In all situations, I will be with you, whether you are a son, brother, sister, or friend."
