Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Chinnakalar Records 20 CMS Rains; Heavy Downpour Alert Issued
Several parts of Tamil Nadu registered heavy rains with Chinnakalar in Coimbatore district recording the highest rains on Tuesday.
According to data from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chinnakalar received 20 cm of rainfall, followed by 19 cm in Devala (Nilgiris), 15 cm in Gudalur Bazar (Nilgiris), Upasi TRF AWS (Coimbatore district), and Cincona (Coimbatore district).

Upper Gudalur and Pandalur in the Nilgiris received 14 cm and 13 cm respectively. Went Worth Estate (Nilgiris) and Sholayar (Coimbatore district) recorded 12 cm of rainfall, followed by 11 cm in Avalanche (Nilgiris), Valparai Taluk Office (Coimbatore district), and Valparai PAP (Coimbatore district).
The weather agency has predicted heavy rains in a few places with thunderstom and lighting. "Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris
district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Kanyakumari district; Ghat areas of Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts," a statement from the agency said.
The weather forecast for Chennai indicates partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas during the evening and night. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 35-36°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to be around 26-27°C.
In the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 IST today (26.06.2024), maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal were generally near normal, with isolated areas experiencing temperatures 2-3°C above normal.
The highest maximum temperature of 38.2°C was recorded in Tondi. In specific regions, temperatures ranged from 31-37°C in the plains of North Interior Tamil Nadu, 34-37°C in the plains of South Interior Tamil Nadu, and 34-37°C in North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. South Coastal Tamil Nadu saw temperatures ranging from 28-38°C, while hilly areas experienced temperatures between 16°C and 23°C.
Chennai recorded normal maximum temperatures with NBK at 36.8°C (-0.2°C) and MBK at 36.0°C (-1.0°C).
