Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 8 Districts Exceed 40°C, Chennai at 37.8°C

Eight districts recorded over 40°C mainly in North Tamil Nadu on Sunday, as per the data released by the Regional Metorologial Department.

Erode registered the highest maximum temperature at 42.2°C (+4.7°C), followed by Karur Paramathi at 41.5°C (+4.0°C), Salem at 41.0°C (+3.1°C), Vellore at 40.8°C (+1.9°C), Trichy at 40.6°C (+2.5°C), Madurai AP at 40.2°C (+2.4°C), Tirupathur at 40.2°C (+2.5°C), and Tiruthani at 40.0°C (+1.6°C), the RMD said.

In the rest of interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures ranged from 35-39°C. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal experienced temperatures between 35°C to 39°C, while hilly areas saw temperatures between 24°C to 30°C, generally above normal.

Chennai recorded normal to above-normal maximum temperatures, with Meenambakkam at 37.8°C (+1.5°C) and Nungambakkam at 35.4°C (+0.3°C).

The weather department said that rainfall occurred at one or two places over the state. It has also predicted light to moderate rains for the next few days.

"Light rain is likely to occur at one or two places over South Tamilnadu. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over North Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area," the RMD said in its daily weather update.

Over the next five days, maximum temperatures are expected to range 2-3°C above normal in certain areas of interior Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, minimal change in maximum temperatures is anticipated across the remaining districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during this period.

Maximum temperatures are forecasted to reach 39-41°C in isolated pockets across the plains of the northern interior districts, while ranging between 34-38°C over the plains of the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal area.

Nonetheless, the heatwave condition continue to impact people in isolated pockets in north interior Tamil Nadu.

For Chennai, the RMD forecasts partly cloudy skies. Expect maximum temperatures to range between 37-38°C, with minimum temperatures hovering around 28°C.
