Tamil Nadu Weather: RMC Issues Red Alert For Coimbatore, Nilgiris; 8 Dists To Get Heavy Rains
At least eight districts are predicted to get heavy rains on Tuesday, with the Ghat areas of Coimbatore and the Nilgiris being issued red alert by the Regional Meteorological Centre.
The weather agency, in its daily bulletin, has given an orange alert to Tirunelveli district, Theni and Tenkasi districts. Whereas Tiruppur, Dindigul and Kanyakumari districts are on yellow alert.

Weather blogger R Pradeep John, in a post on Facebook, said: "Kumari, Nellai, Thenkasi, Theni all getting very good rains now as the monsoon clouds breach the ghat areas and giving rains to the leeward side too. Good numbers can be expected from Kanyakumari and Nellai ghat areas today. South Kerala getting good rains. It was the north which was rocking last 3 days. Avalanche / Parsons Valley might report another 200 mm+ rainfall."
Coimbatore district and Nilgiris district are on orange alert on Wednesday, while Ghat areas of Tirunelveli district, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts are on yellow alert.
A red alert signifies imminent severe weather conditions that could disrupt transportation and power supply, posing risks to life. An orange alert indicates a heightened risk of flooding, and suggests the possibility of transportation disruptions, power outages, and landslides.
On the other hand, an orange alert indicates extremely adverse weather conditions affecting transportation by rail, road, and air.
As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain are likely in some areas.
The Nilgiris Get Heavy Rains
On Monday, Avalanche in The Nilgiris district highest rains at 26 cms. It is followed by 13 cms in Emeralad in the The Nilgiris district, Upper Bhavani (dist The Nilgiris), Chinnakalar (dist Coimbatore), 11 cms in Kunda Bridge (dist The Nilgiris), Thekkadi (dist Theni), 10 cms in Periyar (dist Theni), Went Worth Estate (dist The Nilgiris) and 9 cms in Valparai PTO (dist Coimbatore), Siruvani Adivaram (dist Coimbatore).
Thanjavur and Thoothukudi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37.0°C over. Karur Paramathi recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 20.5°C.
