Tamil Nadu Weather: Kancheepuram Tops With 129.2 mm Rains, More Downpour Today As 20 Dists On Yellow Alert

Tamil Nadu witnessed intense rainfall activity on Tuesday, with Kancheepuram district recording the highest downpour at a staggering 129.2 mm, followed closely by Tiruvallur with 108.0 mm.

Several pockets in Chennai, Thanjavur, and Pudukkottai also saw significant rainfall. Edayanchavad in Chennai registered 96 mm, and Veppathur in Thanjavur recorded 90.8 mm, indicating a broad swath of the state affected by the weather system.

20 Districts To Get Heavy Rains Today In Tamil Nadu

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for 20 districts, warning of heavy rains on Wednesday. Districts under alert include Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet, and Tiruvallur, along with the Karaikal region.

The RMC has said that a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the past 24 hours, ranging from 1 to 4°C in many pockets. While isolated areas saw temperatures rise 2-3°C above normal, most regions experienced normal to below-normal conditions. Forecasts suggest a slight dip in temperatures on September 17 and 18, followed by a gradual rise of 2-3°C between September 19 and 21.

• Forecast: Slight cooling is expected on Sept 17-18, followed by a gradual rise of 2-3°C from Sept 19-21.
