Tamil Nadu Weather: Chennai To Get Moderate Rains; 18 Districts On Yellow Alert Today
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rains across Tamil Nadu for the next few days, with 18 districts under a yellow alert today.
Isolated areas in the Ghat regions of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts are expected to experience significant rainfall.

For Sunday, heavy rains are predicted to continue in the Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Madurai, and Thoothukudi districts. On Monday, similar conditions will persist across Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.
Chennai will also experience moderate rains over the next two days. The RMC stated, "The sky will likely remain partly cloudy, with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. Maximum temperatures will range from 35-36°C, while minimum temperatures will be around 26-27°C."
Madurai and Palayamkottai recorded the highest temperatures on Friday, reaching 39.4°C, while Erode had the lowest minimum temperature at 19.8°C. Srivilliputhur and Sattur in Virudhunagar district received the heaviest rainfall, with 8 cm, followed by Vazhapadi in Salem district, which recorded 7 cm.
Residents in affected districts are advised to remain cautious as the rains continue, with isolated thunderstorms likely to add to the intensity in several regions.
