Five districts across Tamil Nadu recorded over 40.0°C with Vellore registering a record 43.7°C on Friday, the data from the Regional Meteorological Centre said.
For the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 today, maximum temperatures were 2-3°C above normal in several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while temperatures in the rest of Tamil Nadu and the Karaikal area remained generally near normal.

Vellore recorded the highest maximum temperature at an unprecedented 43.7°C. Erode recorded a temperature of 40.8°C, Thanjavur reached 40.0°C, and Vellore peaked at 43.7°C.
Maximum temperatures ranged from 36-43°C over the plains of North Interior Tamil Nadu and from 37-40°C over the plains of South Interior Tamil Nadu. In the North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas, temperatures also ranged from 37-40°C, while South Coastal Tamil Nadu experienced temperatures between 33-38°C. The hilly regions, in contrast, enjoyed much cooler maximum temperatures of 23°C to 25°C.
In Chennai, temperatures were notably higher than usual. At Meenambakkam (MBK), the maximum temperature was 41.5°C, which is 2.9°C above normal. Meanwhile, Nungambakkam (NBK) recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2°C, 2.3°C above normal.
Rain Prediction
The RMC has predicted heavy rains for these districts today: Nilgiris, Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem districts.
Also, the weather agency has predicted the sky in Chennai is expected to be partly cloudy, with light rain likely in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to be between 38-39°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be between 29-30°C.
