Tamil Nadu: Thalapathy Vijay Gets Y-Category Security

Tamil actor Vijay has been accorded Y-category security by the Union Home Ministry on Friday, as per the reports.

The actor-turned-politician will be getting a team of 8 armed personnel for his security under this category. Out of eight, two are commandos while the remaining people are police. However, he will get this security only in Tamil Nadu.

In February 2024, Vijay formally announced his political entry. He has founded Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam which had its first political rally in October and had over 5 lakh turnout.

He has set his eyes on the 2026 Assembly elections. TVK has embraced left-wing ideological leanings, drawing from Ambedkarism, Marxism, and Periyarism. As it continues to consolidate its leadership and strategy, the party aims to position itself as a viable alternative to the DMK in Tamil Nadu politics.

Meanwhile, India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation (MOTN) poll has claimed that the DMK-Congress alliance remains in a pole position, with predictions favouring their victory if elections were held today. The survey, conducted from January 2 to February 9, 2025, covered 125,123 individuals across all Lok Sabha segments and combined fresh interviews with long-term tracking data.

The survey indicates that the opposition INDIA bloc is set to increase its vote share by 5 percentage points, reaching 52%. Meanwhile, the BJP, which secured 18% in the 2024 general elections, is expected to rise slightly to 21%. The AIADMK, which was unseated by the DMK in 2021, is projected to witness a decline from 23% to 20%.

However, if the BJP and the AIADMK join hands with the TVK, there are chances of the alliance challenging the DMK.

Meanwhile, Vijay has to complete his forthcoming movie Jana Nayagan before he becomes fully with with politics. The Tamil film is directed by H Vinoth. The movie has Pooja Hegde in the female lead.
