Tamil Nadu School Holidays In August: School, Colleges To Remain Closed For 12 Days

Students in Tamil Nadu can look forward to an extended break in August, with schools and colleges set to remain closed for 12 days due to a combination of public holidays, festivals, and weekends.

School Holidays

In August, there are five weekends. It means the students will get 10 days off. Also, there are three state holidays.

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has announced the following holidays for government and state board institutions:

Weekends (Saturdays & Sundays): 10 days (August 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 23-24, 30-31).

Public Holidays:

August 15 (Friday) - Independence Day

August 16 (Saturday) - Krishna Jayanthi (Janmashtami) (coincides with a weekend, so no additional holiday)

August 27 (Wednesday) - Ganesh Chaturthi

This year, the state government has declared all weekends as holidays for government and aided schools, a departure from previous years when some Saturdays were working days.

Exemptions for Private Institutions
