T Nagar becomes power cut-free zone in DMK's tenure

Chennai: T Nagar is a major business hub of Chennai city. The busy hub is commercially active throughout the year. During the Festive season, the crowd throngs the area. Shoppers will be slowing traffic to a crawl. But during the rainy season, T Nagar is prone to floods. The area residents will be grappling with waterlogging and floods after every rain.

But, This is not at all the current scenario that prevails in the commercial hub of the Capital city. During the past one and a half years of DMK's rule, T Nagar witnessed a major upgrade in its city's infrastructure. Even the BJP councillor Uma Anandhan appreciated the efforts taken by the DMK government for T Nagar.

Better roads:

Whenever it rains in Chennai, in all the vulnerable areas, especially in T Nagar there will be disruptions in the state-run local bus services, and two-wheelers will be found stranded on several roads covered under sheets of water. But now there is no water-logging in the streets after the rains. Moreover, T Nagar got a new infrastructure upgrade from TANGEDCO. Yes, T Nagar is now officially the power-cut-free zone of Chennai city.

The major roads like Pondy bazaar, Panagal Park, Usman road, Ranganathan road, Muthurangan road, Canal Bunk road, 3rd main road, Moose Street, Arya Gowda Street and Brindavan road will always be packed with huge crowds. Also, these roads are filled with gigantic old trees which will always cause electricity trouble during the rainy season.

Power cut free zone:

As T Nagar is a commercial hub, there are always electrical circuit overload problems. This issue took a heavy toll on commercial sales affecting the economic condition of the users. This problem is now eradicated by the DMK Government. Through TANGEDCO the government installed new substations to bring down the overloading problems. Initially, if there was a power cut due to damage to underground cables, the electricity board has to shut down the power and repair the damages which will take a minimum of 30 minutes. But now, the cables were raised to a higher level which won't need a power shutdown to get a repair.

A resident of 30 years in T Nagar shares his experience. "This time the residents of T Nagar didn't face any power cut at all. Since the DMK government was formed the neighbourhood never faced a power shutdown problem. The water logging problem was also solved within a few minutes. I witnessed ministers working day and night to drain the rainwater logging during the heavy rains".

Power Overload problem reduced from 80% to 30%:

"The overloading issue was brought down from 80% to 30% by constructing a new substation in the Muthurangan road. This aided to tackle the electric overload issue. Nearly for 3kms the electricity board replaced the old electric wires in the Corporation Colony area and two new feeders were constructed on the Muthurangan road. All these upgrades were done within a year of the DMK government.

100 kv to 250 kv transformers:

"In T Nagar, the pedestal of 118 electric pillar boxes has been increased to one meter to avoid inundation leading to power cuts. This ensured that there were no power cuts in the area during the rain. Exposed electric cables running across the streets are common in T Nagar. Any underground cables lying above the ground were removed by the electricity board throughout the area to assure the safety of the people.

All old transformers were upgraded from 100kv to 250 kv. The capacity of 11 transformers was raised to manage the overloading issue" says Pandiarajan.

T Nagar assistant engineer Selvaraj says, "There are 28,228 electric connections in this area with 44 HD service connections. Once the government was taken over by CM Stalin, power shortage, and power cut issues were given greater attention. The entire infrastructure has been upgraded with new technologies in this newly formed government".

Until the ADMK government, the electric wires were fixed in polls for nearly 3 km around the T Nagar. But the newly formed DMK government upgraded this method and constructed the electric wires underground. So far there were only 2 transformers in this area. But the DMK government added two more transformers, reducing the power shortage".

T Nagar MLA J. Karunanidhi says, "So far we have constructed nearly 81 transformers throughout T Nagar. Everything is upgraded with modern technology. Both the construction and repairing services had been made easy with this new technology upgrade. These modernisation steps safeguarded birds from dying and also saved the electric wires from the birds causing spillage.

300 electricity box pillars were raised in T nagar. and there are 260 pillars yet to be done. We are working hard towards better infrastructure. Furtherly, a new substation construction process is happening in CIT Nagar".
