Provide Relief Measures To Affected On War Footing: Thalapathy Vijay Urges Kerala Govt On Wayanad Landslide

Thalapathy Vijay, actor and founder of 'Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam', has sent his prayers to the bereaved families of the Wayanad landslide incident.

In a post on X, Vijay said that he is deeply saddened on hearing the tragic news of landslide in Kerala. "My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. Request the Government authorities that the necessary rescue and relief measures be provided to the affected on a war-footing," his statement read.

He is the first big superstar from South India to respond to the landslide incident.

Tamil actor Vijay is popular among Maliyalis and has a commendable number of fans in Kerala.At least 66 people have been killed in the landslides that hit Kerala's hilly Wayanad district on Tuesday. Several women and children are among the dead. Also, hundreds of people are feared to be trapped following the landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, which occurred early on Tuesday.

The incident has left a trail of destruction in its wake, with several houses destroyed, water bodies swollen and trees uprooted. Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha villages were among the areas affected and cut off by the landslides.

Meanwhile, rescue teams were working tirelessly to evacuate those stranded, with the Indian Army joining the efforts. Besides the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the state government has also deployed disaster response teams from the police and the fire force to affected areas.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modu has said that he is distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. "My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured," he said in a post on X.

The PM said that the rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected and he has spoken to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He also also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation.
