Muslim outfit functionary hacked to death in Chennai

Chennai, Jul 21: A 33-year old functionary of Tamil Maanila Muslim League was hacked to death by a five-member gang on Monday, police said.

The unidentified gang members encircled N Akbar and attacked him with sharp edged weapons in Ice House locality this morning, police said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Police have stepped up vigil and additional personnel deployed in the locality, a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood, they added.

"Investigation is on. We are pursuing certain leads and will soon be apprehending the culprits," a police official said.
