Live Chennai North Election Results 2024: Kalanidhi Veeraswamy Vs R Manohar Vs Paul Kanagaraj

The counting for the 39 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu will begin at 8 am on Tuesday.

The Chennai North Lok Sabha constituency is gearing up for a tight finish in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

In North Chennai, the contest features Kalanidhi Veeraswamy of the DMK, R Manohar of the AIADMK, RC Paul Kanagaraj of the BJP, and E Iqbal of the BSP.

Veeraswamy, a plastic surgeon, is vying for re-election based on his five-year performance record. His landslide victory in 2019, securing a notable 61.85% vote share, bolsters his confidence. Veeraswamy contends that the BJP's influence in North Chennai remains marginal, attributing this to the robust organizational structures of the DMK and AIADMK.

Over the course of 14 Lok Sabha elections since 1967, Chennai North has overwhelmingly favored the DMK, emerging victorious 11 times, with two wins for the Left parties. The AIADMK clinched a solitary victory in 2014, capitalizing on a potent anti-incumbency sentiment against the UPA and the DMK.

While Veerasamy enjoyed a smooth campaign in 2019, he anticipates a tougher electoral battle this time around, facing formidable opponents from the AIADMK and BJP alliances. Royapuram Manoharan, the AIADMK candidate and former Congress member, banks on the party's traditional support base in Chennai North, including the Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar segment, previously held by the late leader J Jayalalithaa.

Moreover, senior AIADMK leader and former minister D Jayakumar has clinched victories in the Royapuram segment five times. The AIADMK aims to leverage resentment against the DMK in certain areas of Chennai North, particularly among those severely affected by last December's floods.

RC Paul Kanagaraj heads the party's state advocates' wing. Despite past losses in Assembly segments, the BJP is determined to mount a robust challenge by appealing to the North Indian population in the region.
