Coimbatore Cricket Stadium: TIDCO Floats Tender Inviting Bids To Develop Stadium On PPP Model

After years of anticipation, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has invited expressions of interest (EoI) for the development of an international cricket stadium and commercial complex in Coimbatore under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

According to a public notice now circulating on social media, TIDCO stated that proposals with a conceptual plan and project structure must be submitted by 5 PM on November 24, 2025. Interested firms can download the EoI document from tidco.com or tntenders.gov.in.

The move signals a major step forward for the long-discussed Coimbatore cricket stadium project, which had initially aimed to become the largest in the country by seating capacity. However, officials now emphasize creating a world-class, modern facility on par with stadiums in Australia and South Africa, focusing on fan comfort, advanced amenities, and state-of-the-art infrastructure.

A top bureaucrat confirmed to DT Next earlier that the technical consultant for the project would be finalized soon. "The financial bid evaluation is almost complete, and the work order will be issued shortly. The consultant is expected to deliver the design and detailed project report (DPR) within 30 to 50 days," the official said.

Once appointed, the technical team, along with representatives from the State Sports Department, is expected to visit leading cricket venues in India and abroad for design references. The project cost will be finalized after the DPR is submitted.

The stadium will come up on a 20-acre site-including 8 acres for parking-within a 200-acre land parcel owned by the Prison Department, located near Ondipudur along National Highway 544 (Salem-Kochi route), roughly 16 km from Coimbatore city.

While the seating capacity is yet to be determined, the focus has shifted toward quality over scale, featuring indoor training and fielding facilities, a gymnasium, spa, and other high-performance infrastructure for players.
