Data released by the Tamil Nadu Disaster Risk Reduction Agency reveals the extent of the downpour between 8:30 AM on Friday and 8:30 AM this morning. The Korattur area in Chennai recorded the highest rainfall, with one gauge station measuring an impressive 94.2 mm and another nearby station registering 84.3 mm.

Several other areas also experienced heavy spells. Okkiyam Thoraipakkam received 71.1 mm, while Ayapakkam and Kannagi Nagar recorded 68.1 mm and 66.6 mm respectively. Other localities, including Injambakkam (65.1 mm), Manali (55.8 mm), and Nerkundram (55.8 mm), also saw significant rainfall. Weather enthusiasts noted that much of this rainfall occurred within just one hour of intense showers, indicating the storm's severity.
Weather experts predict that this is not a one-off event. The current conditions, influenced by an upper air circulation (UAC), are expected to bring more thunderstorms to North Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, today and over the next couple of days.
