The meeting comes on the day the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government held its first cabinet meet following Jayalalithaa's demise.
Days after Karunanidhi returned from the hospital both his sons met him in succession to discuss the party's future. Given the political scenario in the state, Azhagiri's frequent meeting with Karunanidhi and Stalin has only make talks of his return to the party louder.
Azhagiri's visit also comes at a time when the DMK has announced the date for its general body meeting. Party patriarch Karunanidhi is set to chair the meeting on December 20.

With its abysmal performance in the recent bypolls, the DMK had to bring about changes in the party. Stalin had met Azhagiri days after the bypoll results fuelling rumours of the prodigal son's return to the party.
The vacuum created in state politics with Jayalalithaa's passing, a window of opportunity may have just opened up for the DMK which is determined to seize it. Azhagiri's return to the party will improve vote shares in the Madurai belt that he holds a sway on. Bypolls in R K Nagar constituency will be the primary target for the DMK currently.
