TVK-PMK Alliance In Works For 2026 TN Polls As AIADMK Stitches Alliance With BJP
After the AIADMK decided to go with the BJP ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls 2025, actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is now looking to have an alliance with smaller parties.
If the latest reports are to be believed, the TVK is in talks with Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) to form a third major alliance.

Early Alliance Talks in Motion
Going by the reports, preliminary discussions are underway between TVK and PMK, with proposals reportedly on the table for an equal seat-sharing arrangement and a rotational Chief Ministership - 2.5 years each for PMK's Anbumani Ramadoss and Vijay. Though these talks are still in the early stages, both parties seem optimistic about forming a partnership that blends PMK's grassroots strength with Vijay's mass appeal.
It is interesting to note that Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss has recently reclaimed the party's top position by declaring himself the President of the party. His son and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss was reduced to the working president.
Political Landscape Shifts Early
Unlike in previous elections, where alliances often took shape after the official poll schedule was announced, talks have begun more than a year in advance this time. This reflects the fast-evolving political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu, where parties are proactively exploring strategies to gain a competitive edge.
The DMK alliance, which includes Congress, MDMK, VCK, and the Left parties, is expected to remain intact, having proven successful in the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly elections. The AIADMK-BJP alliance has also left the past behind and is reportedly looking to bring back allies like DMDK into the fold.
TVK's Strategic Move
Although some observers initially speculated that Vijay's TVK might be sidelined, sources close to the party insist that TVK is actively building its organizational structure and strategically engaging in alliance talks behind the scenes.
The PMK enjoys a good voter base among the Vanniyar community, particularly in northern Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, Vijay commands a huge fan following in Tamil Nadu, especially among youths.
With alliance demands heating up - including ministerial roles and power-sharing arrangements - the coming months are expected to witness intensified negotiations and shifting political equations.
If the TVK-PMK alliance does materialize, it could mark the rise of a formidable third front in Tamil Nadu politics, setting the stage for a closely contested battle in 2026.
