No power shortage in Haryana: Government

Chandigarh, Sep 10: Haryana Power Utilities Wednesday said there was no power shortage in the state despite the discontinuation of supply of contracted 1,424 MW by Adani Power and a part of the contracted 400 MW power by Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) in recent days.

"There is no shortage of power in the state owing to better generation at state's own plants and other arrangements. CGPL is supplying 220 MW power to the state daily against the contracted 400 MW," a spokesman for Haryana Power Utilities said here.

He said that Haryana had made adequate arrangements of up to 10,625 MW of power supply during June to September this year to meet the requirements of electricity consumers.

"These include power generation by the state's own power plants, shares in central and other generating projects, banking arrangements, power purchase agreements and long term arrangements," he said.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had recently written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointing out that the discontinuation of power supply by the Adani group and the CGPL had affected power supply in the state.

Power Minister Harmohinder Singh Chhatta had also sought the intervention of Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal in the issue of power supply being stopped by the Adani group and CGPL.

Haryana still has scope to have additional power from Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Station, Jhajjar and a gas-based plant in Faridabad.

"The peak demand of electricity is about 7,500 MW and the discoms are supplying power as per schedule and even more than the schedule as per requirement," he claimed.

Regarding availability of coal for the state's thermal plants, the spokesman said that sufficient coal stock was available to run the plants for 10 days. He said that the plants are getting coal regularly from Coal India Limited and other sources.
