Narendra Modi's 1st post-anointment rally in Haryana's Rewari today

on Sunday. The Gujarat chief minister is expected to take on the UPA government at the rally on the question of national security and the repeated attacks by the Pakistani and Chinese troops along the border areas.

He will also take up matters concerning former servicemen, including challenges faced by them in taking up post-retirement jobs.

Former Army chief General VK Singh will also address the rally. Speculation that Singh might join the BJP at the rally is also doing the rounds.

The BJP anointed Modi as its prime ministerial candidate on Friday, despite stiff resistance put up by party patriarch LK Advani.

However, on the eve of the event in Rewari, about 90 kilometres from here, state power minister Ajay Singh Yadav took a dig at Modi while some unidentified people tarnished posters of the Gujarat chief minister.

Yadav said the performance of Congress-ruled Haryana is better than Gujarat in key areas, including social welfare schemes, and there was nothing for the state to learn from Modi's governance model in Gujarat.

He said the Gujarat government's track record in facilitating freedom fighters and ex-servicement is quite ordinary compared to that of the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government of Haryana.
