Meet Lisa, Odisha's First AI News Anchor Set To Revolutionise Journalism

OTV, an Odisha-based private news channel on Sunday unveiled its first full-fledged virtual anchor, a bot named Lisa, who presents news updates several times a day.

Dressed in Odisha's handloom saree, Lisa will present news both in Odia and English for OTV Network's television and digital platforms.

Lisa has the ability to speak in multiple languages, for the time being, she will only present news in Odia and English for the network's television and digital platforms, a company release said.

"Efforts are underway to make Lisa more proficient in Odia in the coming days. You can find and follow Lisa on all the prominent social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, among others," it added.

"Training Lisa in Odia was a difficult task, which we could achieve. However, we are still working on it. We are hoping to get her trained to the level in which she could interact with others easily," OTV Digital Business Head Litisha Mangat Panda said at the launch.

AI news anchors are computer-generated personalities that deliver news content to audiences through virtual platforms. These virtual anchors are created using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including natural language processing, text-to-speech synthesis, and facial animation.

These virtual anchors can read news scripts and present them to viewers in a manner similar to human news presenters.

AI news anchors can deliver news content consistently without fatigue, ensuring a uniform and uninterrupted news experience.

OTV is the first private sattelite channel of Odisha which came into existence in 1997. Since its launch OTV has reached many milestones. Now, setting an example to all the regional television broadcast mediums across the country, OTV is set to embark on a journey to revolutionise journalism.
