Man pours acid onto wife's genitals over dowry demand

, Sept 4: A man allegedly poured acid onto the genitals of his wife after her family failed to meet his demand for more dowry. The shocking incident was reported from Guna district in

It was said that the woman was held down by her husband's friends and family members while battery acid from the family tractor was poured into her genitals. She was also forced to drink kerosene, it was said.

The episode didn't end there. The victim, who suffered serious burn injuries on her genitals, abdomen and thighs, was confined in a room and it was only after several hours that she received medical help.

The woman's father approached senior police officers to take strong action against the accused. According to the police, the woman's husband told her father that she had committed suicide but she revealed the truth to her father and doctors at the hospital.

The couple got married in 2006 and the harassment reportedly began in 2009. A case was also filed against the accused in 2010 but was withdrawn after an out of court settlement.
