Madhya Pradesh local body polls on Nov 23, Dec 2

Bhopal, Nov 2: Local body election in Madhya Pradesh will be held in two-phase on November 28 and December 2, State Election Commissioner R Parasuram said on Sunday.

Out of the total 378 local bodies -- Nagar Nigam, Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Parishad-- polls will be held in 280 local bodies, Parasuram said.

For the first time EVMs will be used in local body elections which will also have None of the Above (NOTA) option.

The Model Code of Conduct has been imposed in the 280 local bodies with effect from announcement of polls today.

Counting will be held on December 4 for the first phase of polling and on December 6 for the second phase.

A total of 11,749 polling booths will be set up. The total number of electorates are 90,00,573, which include 47,27,473 men, 42,72,682 women and 418 others.

The officer said that in the November 2009 local body election, 79.75 per cent electorates exercised their franchise, while the poll percentage is anticipated to rise this time.
