Yediyurappa POCSO Case: Women’s Commission Seeks Report On Victim’s Mother’s Death

The Karnataka State Women's Commission has reignited the POCSO case against former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. The commission has requested a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of the victim's mother from the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner.

The 54-year-old woman passed away on May 26 at Nano Hospitals in Hulimavu police station limits due to lung complications. According to police sources, she was a cancer patient in advanced stages. "She visited the hospital complaining of breathing issues and later died," sources added.

Request for Detailed Investigation

Nagalakshmi Choudhary, chairperson of the commission, has written a letter seeking a report on the cause of death. The woman had previously accused Mr. Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting her 17-year-old daughter at his residence in February. This led to a POCSO case being registered against him at Sadashivnagar police station in March.

Two days before her death, the victim's mother had visited the women's commission. Doctors who treated her confirmed that she died of lung cancer. Police officials also registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) based on her prolonged illness.

Concerns Over Cause of Death

"This is shocking as a person with lung cancer cannot die suddenly unless the death was due to a cardiac arrest or an accident," Dr. Choudhary said. The Akhila Bharata Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane filed a complaint alleging that no post-mortem was conducted after her death and that police did not follow proper procedures.

Despite registering a case of unnatural death based on this complaint, Hulimavu police have made no progress in their investigation. The commission's request for a detailed probe aims to uncover any potential foul play or negligence involved in the woman's sudden demise.
