Bengaluru, Feb 11: These days, nights are worrisome for residents in and around Marathalli area in Bengaluru. After a leopard was spotted in a renowned school in Varthur last Sunday and it injuring three persons, the local people are anxious about their safety.

Manoj Khanna (name changed), a resident of a housing complex in Panathur village area near Varthur, said he doesn't feel comfortable nowadays to take a walk after dinner, even within the complex boundary. "Our guards have been asked to be extra alert and they are keeping vigilance throughout the night with sticks and blowing whistles," he told Oneindia.

The residents' organisation of another nearby apartment has made arrangements for extra lights during the night following the leopard's intrusion in the school. "We are putting up extra lights in our premises in the night so that the animals can be kept away," said one of the residents.

Many parents are also making their children return home from play before it gets completely dark. Over 130 schools Varthur, Marathalli and other nearby areas have remained shut.

Construction workers who live in temporary shelters in the open in and around Marathalli are also a worried lot now. In many places, they were found lighting up torches in the night to protect themselves from possible predators.
