Vishnuvardhan Memorial Dispute: Fans Demand New Monument At Abhiman Studio Amid Land Violations

A controversy has erupted following the removal of Vishnuvardhan's memorial at Abhiman Studio. Fans of Vishnuvardhan are demanding a monument be built in its place. In August 2023, Ravindra Kumar, the Deputy Forest Conservation Officer, addressed a letter to Bengaluru Urban District Commissioner Jagadeesh. Land Lease and Sale Controversy

In 1970, Balakrishna was granted a 20-acre land lease for studio construction for 20 years. The lease was later extended. In 2004, citing financial difficulties, Balakrishna's sons Srinivas and Ganesh sought permission from district officials to sell 10 acres. It is reported that special powers were used by officials to facilitate this sale.

The proceeds from this sale were promised for studio development. However, the studio remains unchanged with no visible improvements over time. Recently, Balakrishna's grandson Karthik planned to sell the land at Rs 14 crore per acre. This plan caught the attention of forest officials who then requested district authorities to take control of the property.

Fans' Demand for Memorial

Currently, Vishnuvardhan's fans are requesting that 10 guntas of land within the studio be allocated for them. They aim to construct a memorial at the site where Vishnuvardhan's memorial once stood. The fans' dedication highlights their desire to honour his legacy through this proposed monument.
