Signal Test Begins For Namma Metro Yellow Line Driverless Trains, Set For December 2024 Launch
The wait is over for Bengaluru commuters as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started dynamic signalling tests for the first driverless train on the Namma Metro Yellow Line, connecting Electronics City and R V Road to Bommasandra. The 19-kilometer stretch is expected to revolutionize public transportation in the city, with trains running at 20-minute intervals.
According to a senior BMRCL official, preliminary activities for these tests have been underway since June 13.

The dynamic signalling tests, which began at 3 pm on Monday, will take around 2.5 months to complete. The testing process will involve a series of checks to ensure that the signalling system is functioning correctly. The testing includes detailed data checking, integration tests, and multiple train tests involving running of trains in opposite directions on each of the tracks.
"As planned earlier, we began the Dynamic Signalling tests at 3 pm today. It involves a series of tests to be completed and will take 2.5 months to complete," the official stated.
The initial phase, detailed data checking, is expected to take 45 days. This will be followed by Integration Tests, requiring around 15 days. The process also includes multiple train tests, which involve running trains in opposite directions on each of the tracks, and will take an additional 10 days.
"A scheduled running test could take a week, and an independent safety assessment by a third party could take another ten days," the official elaborated.
Earlier this year, a driverless train system developed by CRRC (China) was successfully introduced on the line. This marks a significant step towards a more modern and efficient metro network, particularly for the busy route leading to Electronic City.
The collaboration between Titagarh and CRRC goes further. A total of 14 train sets (84 coaches) equipped with cutting-edge Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology are scheduled to arrive from August onwards. This builds upon the success of the initial prototypes tested last year and promises a smoother and more efficient passenger experience.
Namma Metro Line: December Launch
The Yellow Line, an important addition to the city's Namma metro network, is expected to be operational by December 2024 following the CMRS inspection and necessary approvals.
.
Namma Metro's Yellow Line will feature five to six trains running at 20-minute intervals. This will significantly improve connectivity and convenience for commuters, especially those traveling to and from the key technology and industrial hubs in Electronic City.
