Leopard Sighting At Infosys Mysuru Campus: Work-From-Home For Trainee Employees

After a leopard was sighted wandering within the Infosys campus in Mysore's Hebbal industrial area early Tuesday morning, the situation prompted the company to advise its employees and 4,000 trainees to work remotely. The unexpected visitor led to the swift action of calling in a specialized leopard task force from the Mysore Wildlife Division and forest department officials. These experts have now set up camp on the premises to devise a plan for capturing the leopard, which has made the expansive, green campus its temporary roaming ground.

The security team first spotted the leopard on CCTV around 2 am, moving around the campus, which prompted an immediate alert to both the Infosys staff and the Forest Department's control room in Mysore. This incident has not only alarmed the campus community but also involved senior Infosys officials in the matter. Mysore's Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), IB Prabhugowda, reported to the scene, stating, "A leopard was spotted on the Infosys CCTV at around 2 am. Based on the information we received, our team reached the spot at around 4 am and immediately started combing operations. We have not found the leopard so far. The operation is ongoing."

History of Wildlife Encounters and Current Measures

This is not the first time a leopard has been sighted at the Infosys Mysore campus; a similar incident occurred in 2011. The campus's proximity to a reserve forest, known for its leopard population, explains the leopards' ventures into this area, usually in search of food. Despite the natural fear such sightings might invoke, wildlife experts advise caution rather than panic, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting the wildlife that shares our environment.

The Infosys campus, known for its lush greenery, plays host not just to the company's employees but also to a range of wildlife, making incidents like these a rare but not entirely unexpected occurrence. The presence of bushes and green spaces around the campus encourages wildlife movement, including that of leopards, which find these areas suitable for exploration.

Communication and Safety Measures

Following the leopard sighting, Infosys' human resources department took immediate action to ensure the safety of its staff and trainees. Through internal communication, they were informed about the wild animal's presence on the Mysuru campus and were advised to work from home as a precautionary measure. The company is making efforts to ensure campus safety in collaboration with the task force, and entrance to the campus has been restricted for the day.

The Infosys Global Education Center in Mysore, operational for two decades, is a hub for employees from not only Karnataka but across different regions. Some of these individuals reside in campus hostels and have been advised to stay indoors and work from there, maintaining safety while the operations to capture the leopard continue.

The sighting of a leopard at the Infosys Mysore campus has led to significant precautions, including work-from-home directives for the company's large workforce. The ongoing efforts by the wildlife task force to safely capture and relocate the leopard highlight the challenges and responsibilities of coexisting with wildlife, especially in areas adjacent to their natural habitats. As the situation unfolds, the safety of both the Infosys community and the leopard remains the primary concern.
