Karnataka Weather Update: North Karnataka Shivers As Cold Wave Intensifies; Bengaluru Experiences Mild Chill

Karnataka Weather Update: Karnataka is experiencing a spell of normal cold and dry weather, with temperatures dipping in several regions. The Indian Meteorological Department has highlighted that regions in north and south interior Karnataka, including cities like Bagalkot, Haveri, and Hiriyur, are feeling the chill, with minimum temperatures making residents reach for their winter wardrobes. Bengaluru, the state capital, isn't exempt from this cold snap, expecting fog and dew in the mornings, especially around rural areas near reservoirs. The overall forecast doesn't predict any significant change in this weather pattern until January 4, maintaining the cold but dry conditions across the state.

In Bengaluru, both the city and rural districts are wrapped in cold weather, with morning fog expected to cover the landscape. Dr. Rajavel Manickam, a scientist from the Bangalore Regional Meteorological Center, predicts that the maximum temperature for today will hover around 28 degrees Celsius, with the minimum dropping to 16 degrees Celsius. This weather pattern follows the New Year's Eve trend, where despite the cold, the city's enthusiasm for welcoming 2025 remained undampened. The previous day saw a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius in the city and 29.3 degrees Celsius in rural areas, with the nighttime temperatures slightly cooler.

Temperature and Humidity Across Karnataka

Cities across Karnataka have reported varying degrees of temperature and humidity levels early in the morning. Bengaluru city registered a minimum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius with a high humidity level of 90%, indicating a foggy start to the day. Coastal and other cities like Mangalore, Chitradurga, and Gadag saw temperatures ranging from 17.2 to 25.6 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels in these areas were also diverse, from a drier 48% in Chitradurga to a more moist 79% in Gadag. This variation in climate conditions across Karnataka underscores the state's diverse weather patterns during the winter season.

The forecast from the Bangalore Regional Center of the India Meteorological Department, released on January 1, indicates that the chilly, dry weather will persist throughout Karnataka today. While coastal areas might not experience severe cold, they will not escape the dry conditions that are characteristic of this season. The report further specifies that foggy weather will be more pronounced in the northern interior parts of Karnataka until January 4. Similar conditions of dew and cold weather are anticipated in the southern interior regions, with the weather expected to remain dry and the minimum temperatures showing no significant fluctuation.

Despite the chill, the zest for the New Year's celebrations in Bengaluru was palpable, with temperatures on New Year's Eve peaking at 29 degrees Celsius during the day and falling to 16.5 degrees Celsius at night. The rural areas around Bengaluru registered slightly higher temperatures, indicating a slightly warmer climate compared to the city.

Karnataka is enveloped in a cold and dry spell, with temperatures across various cities reflecting the season's chill. Bengaluru, along with other interior parts of the state, will continue to experience these conditions, with fog and dew marking the mornings until January 4. As residents layer up to combat the cold, the state's diverse weather patterns, from coastal humidity to interior dryness, showcase the range of winter weather in Karnataka.
