Karnataka Weather Update: IMD Predicts Bengaluru's First Rainfall Of 2025 On January 13, 14
Bengaluru is set to experience its first rainfall of the year 2025 on January 13th and 14th, following a spell of dry and cooler weather. The much-anticipated showers are attributed to a cyclonic circulation forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal, signaling a shift from the usual weather pattern. This change is expected to bring light rain to India's tech hub, disrupting the dry conditions that have prevailed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rainfall accompanied by shallow to moderate mist in parts of the city. This shift comes as Bengaluru has been observing minimum temperatures slightly above the seasonal average, ranging between 16.3 and 17.3 degrees Celsius. Typically, the city's January average minimum temperature hovers around 15.8 degrees Celsius. On a recent Friday, temperatures peaked at 17.3 degrees Celsius, marking a noticeable deviation from the norm.
However, with the expected rainfall, a dip in temperatures is anticipated post-January 14th, offering relief from the current warm spell.
Weather Shift Explained
N. Puviarasan, Head of the Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru, attributed the warmer nights to easterly winds originating from the Bay of Bengal, which have marginally increased the city's minimum temperatures. He reassured that these changes are not severe enough to cause fog or mist during early mornings. The strengthening of easterly winds will help clear any mist, paving the way for the rains.
Post-rainfall, a slight decrease in temperatures is expected, providing respite from the prolonged dry conditions.
Karnataka Weekly Forecast
According to the IMD's weekly forecast, minimum temperatures are predicted to stay around 18 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures near 28 degrees Celsius leading up to the rainfall. January 11th and 12th are expected to see fog or mist in the mornings, followed by partly cloudy skies, setting the stage for the showers on January 13th.
Adding a historical perspective, Bengaluru recorded its lowest ever minimum temperature of 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. On the other hand, the highest maximum temperature for January was 33.4 degrees Celsius, recorded on January 31, 2020.
This year's rains, while modest, mark a significant shift in the city's weather pattern and are eagerly awaited by residents looking forward to cooler days ahead.
