Karnataka Weather Alert: Will Bengaluru See Rains? Met Dept Predicts Light Rains On These Two Days
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rains in Bengaluru on March 21 and 22, bringing a slight respite from the prevailing dry weather conditions in the city. The forecast comes as a relief to residents grappling with rising temperatures and water scarcity issues.

The current water crisis in Bengaluru has been exacerbated by the lack of rain, with the city heavily reliant on underground borewell water and reservoirs like the Kaveri for its water supply. However, these sources are running critically low, highlighting the urgent need for rainfall to replenish them.

Bengaluru typically receives minimal rainfall during January and February, with monthly averages of just 1.9mm and 5.9mm, respectively. March marks the beginning of the pre-monsoon season, with an average monthly rainfall of 18.5mm. While heavier rainfall is expected from May onwards during the southwest monsoon, September remains the rainiest month with an average of 213mm of rainfall, as per Skymet weather agency.
The current weather pattern indicates the presence of the Pre-monsoon Peninsular India trough, a semi-permanent feature in March, running through the interior parts of Karnataka. This trough often brings sporadic showers to the region. The trough is expected to be positioned west of its normal location, but there is still a possibility of it bringing some clouds and light rain to Bengaluru between March 21st and 23rd.
While there are no guarantees of substantial rainfall, the forecast offers a ray of hope for Bengaluru residents, who are eagerly awaiting relief from the ongoing water crisis.
