Karnataka Weather Alert: Yellow Alert Remains In Bengaluru as Monsoon Advances, Check IMD Warning For May 22
Karnataka Weather: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for multiple districts across Karnataka for May 22, warning residents of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the coming days.

Red Alert Districts
The IMD has placed four districts-Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, Udupi, and Chikmagalur-under a red alert, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, as the intense downpour could lead to waterlogging, flash floods, and disruptions to daily life.
Orange Alert Areas
Several other districts-Belagavi (Belgaum), Dharwad, Haveri, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, and Kodagu-have been issued an orange alert, which denotes the possibility of intense weather that could result in localised flooding, traffic delays, and damage to infrastructure.
Yellow Alert
A yellow alert has been sounded for the remaining districts, including Bengaluru, indicating that residents should stay updated and exercise caution as moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are expected.
Monsoon Watch
The Southwest Monsoon continues to advance, now covering parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin region, and additional portions of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Islands, and the Andaman Sea. IMD has stated that conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to progress further into central Bay of Bengal and additional regions over the next 3-4 days.
Rainfall data indicates that North Interior Karnataka has recorded a large excess of 89%, while Karnataka as a whole has seen 56% more rainfall than average. Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka have received 34% and 44% excess rainfall, respectively.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast (May 21-24):
May 21: Generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rain/thundershowers and gusty winds (40-50 kmph).
May 22-24: Generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain/thundershowers and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).
Residents of Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka are advised to stay alert, follow weather updates, and take necessary precautions as unpredictable weather conditions continue to prevail across the state.
Meanwhile, doctors have warned of a high risk of disease outbreaks and a surge in viral and respiratory illnesses following the rains. Hospitals have already reported a significant rise in respiratory, viral, and vector-borne infections over the past two weeks, and the number of cases is expected to climb further.
