Karnataka School Holidays: Schools To Stay Closed For 8 Days In December - Here’s Why

Holidays are always a source of excitement for school children, no matter how many are already on the calendar. With November, a month packed with festivals and breaks, drawing to a close, students are eagerly awaiting the list of holidays for all schools and colleges in December.

December, with its 31 days, promises around 8 holidays for schools and colleges. In some institutions, a week-long Christmas break could also be on the cards, depending on individual school policies.

This month will include five Sundays-December 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29-offering regular holidays for students. Additionally, December 14 might be declared a local holiday in Kodagu for Huthri, a significant harvest festival in the region.

The list of holidays for December includes December 1, 8, 14, 15, 22, 24, 25, and 29, making it a holiday-packed month for students. Schools with an extended Christmas vacation could add even more days to this count.

This year has been exceptionally generous for Karnataka's school children in terms of holidays. After the long summer vacations in April and May, several regions announced rain-related holidays due to inclement weather. Later, students enjoyed extended breaks during the Navaratri and Deepavali festivities. Now, December offers yet another chance for students to revel in festive breaks.

While holidays bring joy, they also come with the challenge of compensating for lost academic time.

In districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, prolonged rain-related closures earlier this year disrupted school schedules. To address this, schools in these regions are planning to conduct extra classes on half-day Saturdays in the coming weeks.
