Karnataka Holiday On Feb 20: Why Govt Offices Will Remain Shut On Thursday?

The Karnataka state government has declared a holiday for its employees on Thursday, February 20, to facilitate their participation in a grand convention organized by the Karnataka State Government Employees' Association.

The convention, set to take place at Tripura Vasini in Palace Grounds, Bengaluru, is expected to witness the participation of nearly 10,000 government employees from various districts and taluks of the state. This large-scale event will be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar attending as the guest of honour.

The event will commence at 10 am and continue until 5 pm, featuring discussions on crucial issues affecting government employees. The association has stated that the convention will deliberate on various pressing demands, including pending salary revisions, promotions, and other employment benefits.

This marks the first significant gathering of the Karnataka State Government Employees' Association since December 2024, following the election of new office-bearers. The association has urged all members to attend in large numbers and contribute to the success of the event.

The state government's decision to grant a holiday is seen as a special privilege for employees participating in the convention. The holiday coincides with the observance of State Day in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, further reinforcing its significance.

With thousands of employees expected to be in attendance, government offices across Karnataka will remain closed for the day. Citizens are advised to plan their official work accordingly, as normal operations in government offices will resume on February 21.
