IndiGo Guwahati-Chennai Flight With 168 Passengers Issues Mayday Alert, Lands Safely in Bengaluru
An IndiGo flight travelling from Guwahati to Chennai had to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru. The aircraft, carrying 168 passengers, was diverted after the pilots sent out a 'mayday' alert due to dangerously low fuel levels. Sources informed NDTV that the plane landed safely. The pilots involved have been temporarily removed from duty as an internal investigation is underway.

Just days earlier, a similar incident occurred involving an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. This aircraft, destined for London, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12. It also issued a mayday call before crashing into residential buildings and bursting into flames.
Emergency Landing Protocols
In aviation, a 'mayday' alert is a distress signal indicating severe danger requiring immediate assistance. In both incidents, this alert was crucial in communicating the urgency of the situation to air traffic control and ensuring swift action was taken.
The IndiGo flight's safe landing highlights the effectiveness of emergency protocols in place for such situations. While the Air India crash resulted in tragedy, it underscores the importance of rigorous safety checks and procedures in aviation.
Investigation and Safety Measures
The ongoing investigation into the IndiGo incident aims to determine how fuel levels became critically low. Such inquiries are vital for identifying potential lapses and preventing future occurrences. Meanwhile, aviation authorities continue to stress adherence to safety regulations to ensure passenger safety.
Both incidents serve as reminders of the inherent risks in air travel and the need for constant vigilance. Airlines are expected to maintain high standards of safety and conduct regular training for their crew members to handle emergencies effectively.
Aviation experts often review these incidents to improve safety measures further. By learning from past events, airlines can enhance their protocols and minimise risks associated with air travel.
