Four More Double-Decker Flyovers Along Namma Metro Lines Planned For Bengaluru

Plans are underway to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of four additional double-decker flyovers in the Bengaluru, following the completion of the first flyover of 3.2 km, which awaits official inauguration. These new flyovers will feature a unique two-tier structure accommodating both road transport and Namma metro services, aiming to enhance urban mobility and integrate multi-modal transport solutions across Bengaluru.

The feasibility study, currently in progress, aims to assess the technical and financial viability of these ambitious projects. It includes evaluating construction costs, conducting traffic surveys, considering alignment requirements, and addressing potential challenges related to land acquisition. The government has initiated bids for private firms to undertake this study and has plans for a public-private partnership model for construction.

The proposed double-decker flyover will span specific corridors in Bengaluru: JP Nagar 4th Phase to Hebbal (29.20 km), Hosahalli to Kadabagere (11.45 km), Sarjapura to Ibbalur (14.2 km), and Agara to Koramangala 3rd Block (2.45 km). The feasibility study is expected to be completed within three months, with the entire project anticipated to be finished within two years.

Additionally, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is engaging in a separate feasibility study to expand the metro rail network to Tumakuru and is considering an elevated corridor from Bengaluru to Tumakuru. Plans also include extending the metro network to sectors such as the airport and establishing a new line from Bengaluru to Hosur.

Once the feasibility study for the double-decker flyover is complete, the findings will undergo review by state and central governments for approval. If sanctioned, BMRCL will proceed with the formulation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) based on the study's recommendations.

Meanwhile, despite the completion of a 3.36 km double-decker road from Ragigudda to Silk Board Junction, the project awaits governmental approval for public access. This project, initiated in 2017, aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area and has garnered significant public interest for its potential impact once operational.
