Bengaluru Weather: Unusually Heavy Rain And Cold Weather This Winter

Since yesterday, Bengaluru has been enveloped in rain, adding a chill to the winter air. The city, known for its moderate climate, has experienced a surge in rainfall over the last two days. Initially slow, the monsoon rains have picked up pace, making this winter season unusually wet. Reports from Thursday afternoon highlight heavy downpours across various parts of Bengaluru, a trend that continued into today. The persistent rain has not only cooled the city down but also caused frustration among its residents. The sudden showers have particularly troubled street vendors and motorists, disrupting daily activities.

The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert, attributing the current weather patterns to a decrease in wind speed over the southwestern Bay of Bengal. It forecasts light to moderate rainfall in several districts including Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Kodagu. Meanwhile, districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and Bagalkot can expect light rain. The department anticipates dry weather to prevail in other parts of the state, with Bengaluru experiencing cloudy skies and occasional light rain. Furthermore, fog is expected in places like Hassan, Mysore, Ramanagara, Mandya, Tumkur, and Bangalore Urban districts, predicting a chilly atmosphere that is set to continue over the next few days.

The cold weather in Bengaluru arrived earlier than usual this year, and although it subsided briefly, recent cyclonic conditions have kept the temperatures low. Over the last couple of days, the combination of cold and frequent rainfall has led to cloudy skies over the city, with surrounding areas also experiencing showers since Thursday evening. Temperature readings show a significant drop, with Shirali registering a low of 16.6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, HAL observed a maximum temperature of 26.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 19.3 degrees Celsius, while GKVK recorded a low of 16.8 degrees Celsius amongst other temperature variations across the city.

This weather has had a tangible impact on the health of Bengaluru's residents, with many reporting colds, coughs, and fevers. The continuous rain and chilly weather necessitate extra precautions to stay warm and healthy. Experts advise wearing warm clothing and taking measures to maintain body heat during this unusually cold and wet season. As Bengaluru navigates through this spell of cold weather and rain, staying informed and prepared is key to coping with the adverse conditions.

Bengaluru's weather has taken a turn for the cooler and wetter, causing disruptions but also bringing relief from the usual warmth. With the Meteorological Department's forecast of continued rain and fog, residents must adapt to the changing conditions. Keeping warm and staying healthy are priorities as the city weathers this unexpected seasonal shift.
