Bengaluru-Tumkur Namma Metro Expansion Gets Green Light, DPR Preparation Underway
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced that the Bengaluru-Tumkur metro project is envisioned to be developed through private partnership (PPP). It must be noted that the extension of Namma Metro's Green Line from Nagasandra to Madavara, formerly known as Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) line on Tumkur Road is set to be operational by July 2024.
Addressing the press conference following his participation in the Republic Day program, he emphasized the need to alleviate the pressure on Bengaluru by enhancing the communication system. The plan is to extend the metro to Tumkur, and a detailed project report (DPR) is currently in preparation.

Parameshwar clarified that the government won't bear the expenses for the metro rail lines' construction; the central and state government's approval is sufficient. Several companies have expressed interest in investing in the project, and it is slated to be executed in collaboration with the private sector.
A total allocation of Rs 697 crore has been earmarked for various city projects, encompassing the construction of the bus stand, the inauguration of a new university campus, and diverse development endeavors. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to inaugurate these projects on the 29th.
While the smart city project has limited benefits, being confined to only 6 wards, Parameshwar stressed the importance of extending development efforts to all wards. A request for Rs 500 crore from the Chief Minister will be made for the construction of 'Greater Tumkur.' Additionally, Parameshwar emphasized the need for further development of the university's new campus and the request for additional funds.
Under the Narega scheme, Rs 85 crore is allocated for the development of one thousand schools in the district. Repair work, construction of enclosure walls, and playground development are underway, with most tasks already completed. The district has achieved the top position in implementing the Narega scheme, generating 55 lakh man-days in the last seven months. Parameshwar highlighted that projects worth Rs 450 crore have been successfully executed.
