Bengaluru Rains: Overnight Showers Blanket Garden City In Fog, Bringing Chilly Mornings
Residents in Bengaluru woke up to a chilly, foggy morning as thunderstorms swept through the city, bringing a welcome break from the relentless rains on Sunday. The air was crisp, filled with the fresh scent of wet earth, as many stepped outside to enjoy the momentary pause in the downpour.

Bengaluru experienced a return of heavy rainfall on Saturday late night till Sunday early morning, just two days after a brief respite that allowed the city to recover from previous downpours that caused significant damage. The latest showers led to widespread traffic disruptions and flooding in several areas, leaving commuters struggling to navigate through the inundated streets.
On Saturday evening, as the heavy rains poured down, commuters traveling home from their workplaces found themselves caught in traffic jams, exacerbated by the challenging conditions on the roads. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Bengaluru city recorded 17.4 mm of rainfall, while HAL experienced 12 mm of rain by 8:30 PM on Saturday. An IMD release also indicated that the city is likely to experience more rain and thunderstorms on Sunday.
Motorists were similarly caught off guard by the sudden downpour. Prithvik Anileth recounted his experience, noting that it took him three hours to travel from M.G. Road to Whitefield. Another commuter, Kiran Shetty, reported significant traffic disruptions throughout south Bengaluru.
In response to the flooding, a senior official from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) stated that all zones have been put on alert for flood response. Disaster management teams have also been mobilized to address the situation and assist affected residents.
As Bengaluru braces for more rain, IMD has issued yellow alert for October 19. The alert extends to 11 districts across Karnataka, including coastal areas. Bengaluru experienced significant disruptions on October 15, with a 228% increase in rainfall compared to seasonal averages.
The yellow alert has been issued for the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, where "heavy winds are creating near-cyclonic conditions," according to IANS. Both tourists and residents in these areas are advised to remain indoors, and all adventure and water-related activities have been suspended until further notice. Authorities are urging the public to avoid visiting beaches as a precautionary measure.
In its daily weather bulletin, the IMD forecasts "heavy rainfall over north interior Karnataka from October 19 to 22, south interior Karnataka from October 19 to 23, and coastal Karnataka on October 22 and 23." Bengaluru and other affected districts are expected to experience similar weather conditions in the coming days, raising concerns about potential flooding, especially in low-lying areas and buildings near lake beds.
