Bengaluru Man's Harrowing Experience With Rapido Driver- Here's How He Escaped

A claim has been made by a Bengaluru man, Omang Agarwal, asserting that he was subjected to being held hostage by a Rapido auto driver due to an issue regarding payment.

This incident was brought to light when Agarwal took to the social media platform X to voice his complaint against both the driver and the ride-hailing service, citing a lack of assistance from Rapido customer support.

Bengaluru Man's Harrowing Experience with Rapido Driver - What Happened?

In his post, Agarwal described being "held hostage" by the Rapido driver, alleging that the situation arose from a problem with his UPI payment. He explained that he was unable to escape the autorickshaw due to having a broken leg and experiencing breathing difficulties. Consequently, he found himself confined within the vehicle until resorting to calling the police for assistance, as reported by the Mint.

Additionally, Agarwal shared a screenshot of his communication with Rapido Support, wherein he urgently requested intervention, stating, "Please call me. I have been kept back in the auto by the driver. The driver is not letting me get off the auto. I have a foot fracture and a lung infection. I've been locked in the auto for 1 hour+ now." This screenshot served as evidence of his attempt to seek aid from the ride-hailing service during the ordeal.

The screenshot does not show Rapido's response if there was one.

Rapido's lack of security features on the app was called out by Agarwal, who noted that he had to call the police to finally escape. "I was held hostage by a Rapido rider for hours and they had no security feature to help me," he tweeted. "He had an issue with the UPI payment. I've a breathing issue and broken leg, I couldn't escape. "Their app has no SOS if the ride has ended. Only escaped when I dialed 100," he explained.

Agarwal was tagged by Bengaluru Police in his post. The police department responded by asking him to file a complaint at the nearest police station to take the issue further. This is not the first time Rapido has come under backlash for the actions of its driving partners. There have been many complaints against Rapido drivers - including several allegations of sexual harassment, reported Mint.
