Bengaluru Floods: Kengeri, RR Nagar, and KR Puram Submerged After Intense Early Morning Rain

Bengaluru experienced another wave of flooding early this morning as heavy rains hit various parts of the city, particularly Kengeri, RR Nagar, and KR Puram. Residents woke up to inundated streets and disrupted daily life, reminiscent of previous flooding incidents that have plagued the city.

The rains began late last night and intensified early this morning, resulting in significant waterlogging in multiple areas. In Kengeri, several localities reported knee-deep water on the roads, making it difficult for residents to step outside. Commuters faced severe delays as vehicles struggled to navigate through the flooded streets.

Bengaluru Flooded Yet Again Early Morning Rains Bring Kengeri And RR Nagar KR Puram To A Standstill

Ravi Kumar, a resident of Kengeri, expressed his frustration: "Every time it rains, we have to deal with this mess. It's like the authorities don't learn from the past. We've been living like this for years." Many residents echoed his sentiments, calling for better drainage systems and proactive measures from the authorities.

In RR Nagar, the situation was similar, with water entering homes and disrupting daily routines. "We had to move our furniture to higher ground to prevent damage. This is becoming a regular occurrence, and we need a permanent solution," said Sunita Rao, a local shop owner.

Meanwhile, a day after the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cleared flooded homes in Sai Baba Layout, Horamavu Ward of the KR Puram assembly constituency, residents faced another deluge on Saturday due to moderate to heavy rains.

In response, the BBMP downplayed Saturday's flooding, asserting that only the streets were affected and that no water had entered homes. Meanwhile, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials noted that the layout was developed illegally, without proper authorization. "Development work, including an additional vent below the railway bridge in the layout, is underway. Currently, the stormwater drainage has only a 20-foot width, which causes flooding when water from the Hebbal-Nagawara valley upstream rushes in during rains," a BDA official explained.

As the city grapples with these recurring flooding issues, residents are left to deal with the aftermath once again. With the monsoon season still ongoing, there are concerns that more rain could lead to further flooding, and many are urging local authorities to take immediate action to address the city's drainage challenges.

As the day progresses, the rain is expected to continue, with forecasts predicting more showers throughout the week. Residents are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during this time.
