Bengaluru: 717 Vehicles Booked For Drunk Driving In 10 Days

A total of 717 cases were booked for drinking and driving in the Bengaluru city alone between December 21 and 30.

In the four divisions of the traffic police, over 27,280 vehicles were checked until December 30. During this period, a total of 717 riders or drivers were booked for being under the influence of alcohol and exceeding the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit of 30mg/100ml of blood while operating a vehicle.

717 Vehicles Booked For Drunk Driving In 10 Days

In the South division, as of December 29, the traffic police recorded 167 cases of drunk driving after checking 4,381 vehicles. The highest number of positive cases was booked within the Kumaraswamy Layout traffic police jurisdiction, where 30 cases were registered after inspecting 154 vehicles, resulting in a positivity rate of nearly 19.5 per cent.

However, the Thalaghattapura traffic police station limits exhibited the highest positivity rate among the traffic police stations in the south. Despite checking only 41 vehicles between December 20 and 29, 18 cases were registered, indicating that nearly 44 per cent of the drivers checked had exceeded the legal BAC limit.

On Saturday night alone, the Bengaluru Traffic cops checked 2,787 vehicles and filed 80 drunk driving cases.
