Bengaluru Techie Death Case: Atul Subhash's Letter To 4-Year-Old Son Goes Viral, Reads "I Started Saving For Y

A Bengaluru tech professional, Atul Subhash, was discovered dead at his residence on Monday. A 24-page note he left behind addressed his four-year-old son, who lives with Atul's estranged wife, Nikita Singhania. In the letter, Atul expressed his hope that his son would one day understand his words. The note contained advice that some might find controversial and even sexist.

Atul accused his wife's family of using their son to extort money from him. He claimed the court ordered him to pay Rs 80,000 monthly for maintenance, but Nikita demanded Rs 2 lakh. "It is just sad that this shameless system can make a child a burden and liability to his father," he wrote. He mentioned meeting other fathers who felt similarly alienated.

Allegations Against Wife's Family

In the note, Atul detailed how he had not seen his son since separating from Nikita in 2021. His brother Bikas Kumar filed a complaint alleging Nikita demanded Rs 30 lakh for Atul to meet their son. Atul wrote about the emotional toll on his family due to these demands and expressed unwillingness to let it continue.

Atul's letter also reflected on societal issues, criticising the women's empowerment movement as having gone astray. He described it as destructive and urged men not to become slaves to such philosophies. These statements seemed influenced by his distress during divorce proceedings.

Police Investigation Underway

Bengaluru police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Nikita and her family members based on Bikas Kumar's complaint. Senior officer Shivakumar stated that they demanded money from Atul and harassed him, leading to his death by suicide. An investigation is ongoing.

In an 81-minute video recorded before his death, Atul shared details of his marriage in 2019 after meeting Nikita through a matchmaking site. They had a son in 2020, but financial demands from her family strained their relationship. When he refused further payments, she left with their child in 2021.

Final Words To His Son

Atul's letter included poignant messages for his son: "you don't owe anything to anyone" and warned against trusting society or the system. He encouraged living passionately and solving problems creatively if "my blood wins in you." Despite the pain expressed in the letter, he wished he could have been with his son.

The note concluded with criticism of the legal system that he felt enabled harassment against him and his family. He believed ending his life would protect them from further distress: "I may have destroyed my body but it has saved everything I believe in." A placard reading 'justice is due' was found beside him.
