, is staying in cell number 23 of the Bangalore Central Jail, which is a VIP one. Her prison number is 7402.

What did the 66-year-old leader do on September 28, the first of the entire day she had spent in the jail?

According to sources in the jail, she woke up at 5 am and began to walk around in the jail premises. Her breakfast came from her aide who has been camping outside the jail and she read three Tamil and two English newspapers. It was learnt that Jayalalithaa refused to eat the jail food the night before and had fruits instead.

On Sunday, the AIADMK supremo could not meet her successor O Panneerselvam, who was her finance minister. Panneerselvam, who had taken a tearful oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Monday, wanted to meet his party chief before but could not. Even some party supporters sought an audience with Jayalalithaa, popularly known as Amma or mother but were stopped by the police.

Jayalalithaa also asked the jail authorities not to give her any special treatment.

Jayalalithaa and four others were convicted in a 18-year-old disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa was disqualified as an MLA and was banned from electoral politics for six years starting after her serving four years in prison. She was also slapped with a fine of Rs 100 crore.
