57-Year-Old Bengaluru Man's Death At Doddakallasandra Station Brings Namma Metro Green Line To A Standstill
A 57-year-old man died suicide at the Dakallasandra Station on Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru, halting Namma metro Green Line services between Yelachenahalli and Silk Institute. The tragic event occurred at around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, causing a significant interruption in Namma metro services for several hours, as reported by news agency ANI.

He was later identified as 57-year-old Naveen Kumar Arora, a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout. Police reported that he was married with children. Preliminary investigations revealed that Naveen Kumar was a businessman who had suffered financial losses.
The incident led to massive traffic congestion on Kanakapura main road. Several passengers were left stranded due to the disruption between Yelachenahalli and Silk Institute stations. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) took to social media platform X to inform the public about the situation.
Impact on Commuters
The BMRCL stated, "A man of 57 years of age has committed suicide by jumping in front of the approaching train at Doddakallasandra Station at 17.45 hrs. The body has been removed by the police and taken to a hospital for post mortem. Further investigation is on." This caused significant delays and inconvenience for commuters.
Following the incident at Doddakallasandra metro station, where 57-year-old Naveen Kumar Arora died after stepping in front of an oncoming Metro train, commuters took to social media, describing the Namma Metro platforms as an "easy spot" for such acts.
Shortly after the incident, commuters also voiced their frustration online about delayed metro services, with many reporting waiting times of up to 19 minutes. They vented on X with comments like "send train fast, waiting for train for 19 mins" and "how much longer," and noted the "crazy gaps" in service, before the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officially addressed the situation.
In a similar incident, a four-year-old boy fell onto the tracks at Bengaluru's Byappanahalli metro station on Thursday evening while playing with his sibling. Despite his mother's attempts to catch him, he fell but was rescued safely by metro staff, sustaining only minor injuries.
Previous Incidents
It remains unclear what led him to take such an extreme step. The BMRCL later updated that train services were suspended between Yelachenahalli and Silk Institute Stations, while other sections remained operational.
