PM Modi's Big Message in Bengal: 'Looted Money Is Being Recovered, Guilty Are in Jail'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on previous governments in West Bengal, alleging that people who had misused public funds were now being forced to return the money and face legal consequences.

Addressing a gathering during the Paschimbanga Divas celebrations in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, Modi said the state was witnessing a new phase of development and progress after years of political and administrative setbacks.

The Prime Minister also used the occasion to unveil several development projects and release the latest instalment under the PM-Kisan scheme.

PM Modi Attacks Previous Governments

During his speech, Modi alleged that earlier governments had hindered West Bengal's growth and failed to create opportunities for its people.

He claimed that poor governance had forced many residents to leave the state in search of employment and better prospects elsewhere.

According to the Prime Minister, Bengal's development journey had suffered because of policies that slowed progress and discouraged investment.

He also said that those accused of misusing public funds were now being held accountable and facing legal action.

'A New Atmosphere of Development in Bengal'

Highlighting what he described as positive changes in the state, Modi said West Bengal was experiencing a renewed sense of optimism.

He remarked that the state appeared to be moving forward with fresh energy and confidence. Referring to the significance of Paschimbanga Divas, he expressed hope that the occasion would inspire further development and prosperity across the state.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of infrastructure, agriculture and rural development in accelerating Bengal's growth.

Border Fencing Issue Raised

Modi also referred to the issue of border fencing, alleging that an earlier state administration had delayed the transfer of land required for fencing work along international borders.

According to him, the process gained momentum under the present government, helping improve border infrastructure and security arrangements.

The remarks formed part of a broader criticism of previous administrations and their approach to governance and development.

PM-Kisan Funds Released to Crores of Farmers

One of the major highlights of the programme was the release of the 23rd instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

The Prime Minister transferred more than ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore beneficiaries across the country.

The scheme continues to provide financial support to farmers and remains one of the Centre's flagship welfare programmes for the agricultural sector.

Major Development Projects Announced

During the event, Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid foundation stones for projects spanning multiple sectors, including railways, agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry and rural development.

Among the key announcements was the rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in West Bengal. The crop insurance scheme is expected to benefit nearly 50 lakh farmers and cover approximately 14 lakh hectares of farmland during the 2026-27 agricultural season.

Officials estimate that crops worth more than ₹28,000 crore will be protected under the programme.

Railway and Road Infrastructure Boost

The Prime Minister also announced railway projects worth around ₹590 crore aimed at improving connectivity and transportation infrastructure in the state.

In addition, he inaugurated 49 road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III). The projects cover more than 315 kilometres of roads across different districts of West Bengal and are expected to improve rural connectivity.

Government officials said these projects would help boost economic activity, facilitate easier movement and support overall development in the region.

Focus on Development and Governance

The Paschimbanga Divas programme combined political messaging with major development announcements. While Modi used the platform to criticise previous governments over corruption and governance issues, he also highlighted the Centre's focus on infrastructure, farmer welfare and economic growth.

With several new projects unveiled and welfare benefits released, the event underscored the government's efforts to strengthen development initiatives in West Bengal.
