OpenAI is offering its ChatGPT Go plan free for one year to users in India starting November 4. This initiative aims to increase accessibility and recognise the enthusiasm of Indian users in AI technologies.

OpenAI has announced that its paid ChatGPT Go plan is now free for users in India for a year, starting November 4. This limited-time offer allows users to access the otherwise paid plan without charge. The Go version, introduced as a cost-effective option, provides enhanced features like higher message limits, image generation, and file uploads.

India's rapid growth as a market for OpenAI has prompted this move. The company aims to acknowledge the "enthusiasm and creativity" of Indian users. Since the launch of ChatGPT Go in August, paid subscriptions have doubled within a month. "To celebrate OpenAI's DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on November 4, its first in India, OpenAI is making ChatGPT Go available free for one full year to all users in India who sign up during a limited-time promotional period, starting November 4," said the company.

Features of ChatGPT Go

The ChatGPT Go plan was initially launched in India at ₹399 per month. It offers features such as higher chat limits, more daily image generations, larger file uploads, and longer memory capabilities. With the new promotion, these advanced features powered by OpenAI's GPT-5 model will be free for 12 months for those who register from November 4 onwards.

Existing subscribers of ChatGPT Go in India will also benefit from an additional year of free access. However, this offer is time-sensitive; users must register during the promotional window to qualify.

Steps to Activate Free Plan

To activate your free ChatGPT Go plan: visit the ChatGPT website or open the app on your phone. Sign in with your existing account details. Tap on your profile icon and select 'Upgrade your plan' or go to Settings -- Subscription. Choose the ChatGPT Go option and follow on-screen instructions to complete activation. Once done, the plan will be instantly added to your account.

India's Role in OpenAI's Expansion

India has become OpenAI's second-largest market globally, highlighting its increasing interest in AI tools. The free access offer coincides with similar initiatives by competitors like Perplexity AI and Google targeting Indian users with free plans. Perplexity has teamed up with Airtel for a one-year free Perplexity Pro plan, while Google offers a one-year free AI Pro plan for students in India.
