Tirupati Laddu Controversy: Andhra Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan And Prakash Raj Clash Over Film Industry's Role

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and renowned actor Prakash Raj have found themselves in a heated exchange on social media regarding the ongoing Tirupati Laddu controversy. Kalyan, who leads the Janasena Party, criticized the film industry for allegedly "making light" of religious issues.

Arriving in Vijayawada for an 11-day purification ritual as part of his 'Prayaschitta Diksha,' Kalyan addressed his concerns about the sanctity of Hinduism and food adulteration.

He expressed his frustration over Raj questioning his commitment to secularism, stating, "I respect you, Prakash Raj, but secularism must be mutual. Why should I remain silent about attacks on Sanatana Dharma? The film industry should not make light of these serious issues."

Kalyan emphasized the significance of protecting Hindu traditions, asserting, "Sanatana Dharma is of utmost importance, and every Hindu should take responsibility in this regard. If similar issues arose in other religions, there would be widespread agitation."

In response, Prakash Raj took to X (formerly Twitter) to address Kalyan's comments. "Dear Pawan Kalyan garu, I saw your press conference, and I am surprised by your misinterpretation of my words. I am currently shooting abroad but will respond to your questions upon my return. I urge you to review my earlier tweet for clarification."

Kalyan had previously called for the establishment of a 'Sanatana Dharma Rakshana Board' at the national level, particularly in light of allegations regarding the use of animal fat in making the laddus at the Tirupati-Tirumala temple. He voiced concern over the situation, saying, "We are all deeply disturbed by the findings of animal fat mixed in Tirupati Balaji Prasad. The TTD board must provide answers."

He further stated, "It may be time to form a 'Sanatana Dharma Rakshana Board' to address issues related to temples across India. A national debate should involve policymakers, religious leaders, the judiciary, and the media to end the desecration of Sanatana Dharma."

In a retort, Raj challenged Kalyan, saying, "Dear Pawan Kalyan, this incident happened in a state where you are the Deputy Chief Minister. Investigate and find the culprits instead of inflating the issue nationally. We already face enough communal tensions in the country, partly due to your allies at the Center."

This exchange highlights the growing tensions surrounding religious and political discourse in Andhra Pradesh as both leaders seek to navigate the complex landscape of faith, politics, and public perception.
