State Agricultural Marketing Minister Arup Roy said the chief minister took the strong step, keeping in mind the plight of the common men. He said one has to seek permission from the state government before selling off agricultural products to other states. He said it shouldn't be a problem in sending agricultural products after meeting the demand of the people of the state. He, however, did not clarify what would happen if other states also begin to follow a same policy vis-a-vis West Bengal.

Banerjee announced her decision to curb the rising prices of vegetables

Banerjee announced the step at a special meeting of the task force that has been set up in the state to deal with the rising prices. She said some dishonest traders were responsible for the situation but they would not be allowed to continue with this. She also warned that the police would take strong action against any trader if the latter is found to be charging prices more than that stipulated.

The chief minister added that West Bengal will no longer depend on others to meet its demand for agricultural products and fishes. She said the state will produce more onions and also potato seeds and has already begun pisciculture through modern means in 350 water bodies of the agricultural department.
