Women farmers to be honoured for their work

Katihar, Jan 5: Bihar Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh has asserted that the state government would ensure that all the women, involved in the agricultural work, would also be given equal honours along with their male counterparts.

Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony for the farmers here yesterday, Mr Singh said the women, involved in or practising agriculture, also deserved equal honours. He maintained that the Nitish Kumar government was committed to the development of agriculture in the state and appreciated the work done by the poor farmers.

''The state government is working to improve the agrarian techniques, equipment and High Yield Varieties (HYVs) to enhance the agricultural production in the state,'' Mr Singh said.

Keeping in view the promotion of agriculture in the state, the Bihar government has decided to declare 2008 as the ''year of agriculture'' and start various schemes to support the commitment, he informed.
